Firepit Kitchen & Bar (Lancaster, PA)
Firepit Kitchen & Bar opened up in my area less than a year ago, and I have been hearing mixed reviews, so I thought I would try it out myself, thanks to a LocalFlavor deal again
The warmth of a Firepit can be a comforting and social experience, reminding those around it of time well spent with family and friends. At Firepit Kitchen + Bar, we aim to capture those feelings and ensure every guest experiences friendly, courteous, and professional service ; while dining on fresh, locally sourced, seasonal cuisine.
Owners Nick and Holly Skiadas first envisionedFirepit as a place where they could share the memories of growing up on their family’s home-cooked, Mediterranean meals. Now, we proudly present that vision to our guests through creative menus that will evoke the comfort of memories past, and the joy of those to come!
When arriving at the restaurant, late afternoon, there was not one other person dining in the restaurant. Throughout our visit, still nobody, when we were leaving, FINALLY another couple showed up. This left me wondering, “Are they always this dead?” However, on a good note, this meant we had all the attention of the server, which he did an awesome job at explaining items on the menu, and checking in on us. A+ on service!
So the food….this is where I am on the fence about this restaurant. Maybe it is just my taste buds?
We started with the Ground Veal Sliders and the Fried Greek Mac n Cheese
In my opinion, the Ground Veal Sliders (Balsamic onions, sauteed spinach, roasted garlic aioli)were the best thing about the meal. I was not sure about these, basically because they have spinach on them, which I am not a fan of. BUT, I could not even taste the spinach, the juicy slider and the aioli just kind of took over and blended very well together.
Then there was the Fried Greek Mac n Cheese (Kefalotyri cheese bechamel, tomato marmalade), which of course I thought this would be awesome. However, I was kind of disappointed I was not quite sure what to expect since I have never tried Greek mac n cheese, but I was not a huge fan of the taste. It tasted like herbs just over-powered the dish, and made it less appetizing. It did have a nice crunch from being fried.
For the main meals, it was apparently still lunch menu hour, so there was not many choices to choose from, so I went with a Chicken Caesar Wrap. It was meh! Don’t get me wrong, the chicken was cooked perfectly, it was juicy, and tasted good, but nothing made this stand out. It was just a basic chicken wrap with lettuce, cheese, and dressing, nothing special.
My boyfriend went with the Chicken Saltimbocca Sandwich (Chicken scallopini, crisp proscuitto, roasted garlic aioli, provolone cheese, baby arugula, country white roll), not really knowing what it was. Once he got to take his first bite, he was very pleased. The chicken was tender and juicy, and overall all the flavors blended well together.
In the end, like I said, I am personally on the fence about returning. The food was cooked very well, and the service great, the small menu selection made it difficult for me, and the mac n cheese, just wasn’t my thing this time. My boyfriend said he would return because he was quite happy with what he got. I think if we do return, I will wait for the dinner menu next time to have some more options.
