Choose to Reuse this Earth Day with Zak!

Did you know that today is Earth Day? Don’t worry you are not alone if you did not or it completely slipped your mind. I feel that is one point of Earth Day, to give us all a reminder….. which is what I am here to do also!

So what exactly is Earth Day?

Earth Day is an annual event, celebrated on April 22, on which day events worldwide are held to demonstrate support for environmental protection. It was first celebrated in 1970, and is now coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network and celebrated in more than 193 countries each year.

This is the time each year when you can start to make a difference in the world if you have been trying to figure out a way to do so, or just questioning how you can help the environment in general. Of course, ANY time of the year is a good time to start, this is just an awesome reminder if some of us fall off track with our busy schedules.

So how am I personally trying to help out the environment at this time? I can say when it comes to drinking liquid I go through a TON of water each day, especially while at work. Of course, like most workplaces, we have stacks of styrofoam cups piled up on the counters for everyone to use, or we just buy bottled water from the vending machine. The problem with this? These all get thrown away multiple times throughout the day. Of course, this is just first nature to most of us, use the cup or bottle, throw it away, no second thinking. As we all know these cups and bottles just end up sitting in our landfills causing harm to the environment….but did you realize how much? I know I did not…

  • Every minute a million plastic bottles are bought around the world (1)
  • Not even half the plastic bottles sold in 2016 were turned in for recycling, and only 7% of those were used to create new bottles (2)
  • It takes more than 400 years for plastic to degrade (3)
  • By 2025, the ratio of plastic to fish in the ocean could be one to three, and by 2050, it’s expected that the weight of plastics in ocean will surpass the weight of fish in the ocean (4)
  • 91% of the 8.3 billion metric tons of plastic that’s been produced has not been recycled according to a study published in late 2018 in the peer-reviewed journal Science Advances.
  • Half of all plastics become trash in less than a year, the same study found.

So how can you change anything about this? Myself personally, I have been taking my new Zak! 20oz Alfalfa Tumbler to work on a daily basis so I can just keep refilling my tumbler as I go throughout the day. Not only is this bigger than the normal styrofoam coffee cup, but it also keeps my water cooler longer throughout the day. This Alfalfa Tumbler has a stainless steel double-wall and is vacuum-insulated so you can use this in multiple work environments while keeping your drink cool. Another huge plus, these tumblers are made of durable, eco-friendly material!

Not only is this tumbler awesome for saving me trips to the water cooler, but it also comes in multiple colors for you to choose from (pink, blue, or black), one for everyone.

It is these little things that can start to make a huge impact on the environment today. So if you are thinking I do not have time to get out there and clean up trash, volunteer, or any other local activities, just do something on your own time that still makes a huge impact in the end.

Another simple task for reusing….Use a Reusable Shopping Bag! You can buy these pretty much anywhere nowadays and they can really come in handy. Not only are you saving the environment from all the plastic bag waste that is all around us, but you can also avoid that moment when the plastic bag rips and all your groceries come down on the ground (it has happened to all of us at least once).

So what are you waiting for? Start simple and on this Earth Day make a pledge to use a reusable water bottle or grocery bag for just 30 days!

Zak! is here to help you make your pledge for Earth Day and beyond by giving my readers a 20% discount on any of the Alfalfa tumblers at www.zak.com by using the code CHOOSETORE– USE any time before May 15th

It will all become second nature too you….and of course, you will be helping your wonderful environment along the way.
