Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium- Pittsburgh, PA
I love visiting zoo’s so I had to check the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium while out this way!
In the beginning this was looking like a pretty crappy zoo, honestly. It was about 80 degrees out and a good amount of the animals were not even visible, assuming shading themselves (can’t blame them). However, the further we went we were able to see more animals at least lying around in the grass or hiding out-of-the-way of the sun. There was also the inside exhibits, which were really nice, especially the air-conditioned ones! My favorite one would have had to be all the different monkeys, especially the orangutan. As you can see in the picture below, some of them were sleeping in some pretty odd positions….
The zebras were paired up with the giraffes, which unfortunately I was not able to see much of since they have a feeding zone you can pay to enter, and that’s where the giraffe was. This is $5 per person, so make sure to bring some cash if you want to experience this.
I am not sure I have ever seen a zoo with flamingos but they were all just relaxing, nothing bothering them….
Then you have the aquarium which is included within the zoo price, which is pretty cool! The aquarium has a mixture of saltwater fish and of course freshwater. I really wish I could have run away with a sea turtle, they are so cute!
We were here about 3 hours and that was kind of rushed since we just wanted to get done with the heat, so this could definitely be an all day family event since there is playgrounds for kids also. Not a tiny zoo! Parking is free but can get pretty far out if not there early. Tickets for this location are $14-$16 per person, which I do not think is bad considering all you get to see while here.
